Grace L . Schwartz was born December 31, 1918 in Baltimore, Maryland to Alfred and Irene Levis. She graduated at age 16 from Forest Park High School in 1935. She attended Hood College in Frederick, Maryland and graduated with honors in 1939 with a double major in dietetics and chemistry. Grace served as chief dietician in numerous U.S. Army hospitals throughout Australia and the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, she became assistant supervisor of public school cafeterias in Baltimore until she married CMDR Frank D. Schwartz U.S.N. on June 21, 1947 in Coronado, California. She lived in various places where her husband was stationed until adopting twins, Peter and Katheryne in Munich, Germany in October 1952. After Frank retired from the Navy as a Rear Admiral (RADM), he accepted a job with Boeing and and they moved from Wichita, Kansas to Bellevue, Washington in 1963. She lived in Bellevue for 30 years before moving to Emerald Heights in 1992 after the death of her husband. Grace will always be remembered by her family and friends as a generous, loquacious and outgoing person. We love her and will miss her. |
