On Earthday, April 22, 2007, John Davis and I visited all the locations
where Munroes have lived since coming to this country
in 1880. It was a
busy day. Of course many of the locations were empty lots or the middle
of big
new roads. On the south side
across the 3rd Street bridge we had some
good luck. We also visited St. Joseph's (have to double check that
name) cemetary
and took a picture of the gravesite of George and Mary (Mae)
Green. I got to know John better and saw with my own eyes,
the restoration
that he is painstackingly undertaking at his home which is the former
residence of George and Mae Green.
He is saving original fittings and
hardware but also upgrading the plumbing fixtures. We found we had many
interests in common
that could only be discovered by spending
a day together. John arranged the provisions for a wonderful
picnic in Brandywine
park
and as we sat at the picnic table, Sally and her daughter Claire walked
by and
stopped for a nice visit. Sally was on
the verge of identifying 50 bird species
in a single day. It was a wonderful sunny day. I will have
plenty of pictures to add to this page by the weekend.
